Vera is a country on the continent of Disfas.
Description[]
Vera is the smallest country on the mainland of Disfas. It has cold mountains, hot tropical forests and fertile plains. It's citizens are happy and ruled by a generous king.
Culture[]
The people of Vera are openly warm and compassionate. They maintain a small army but shun killing of human beings. They became an independant state 300 years after Tiris was established. It was a peaceful revolution that was caused by high tax on marine food suppies. The denizens of the are requested to have their own government or all the food producers would quit. Fearing economic failure, Tiris accepted but on the condition that it trade heavily with Tiris.
People[]
Most natives of the area have darkly tanned skin, and speak their native tongue, Veran. 60% of the population own and operate farms, 20% are fisherman and the remaining are skilled craftsmen or soldiers. They are friendly to outsiders and usually speak all of the languages of the entirety of Disfas. Most citizens can't afford schooling but that doesn't mean that they are stupid, in fact, all Veran's are well educated in Agriculture, Botony, Biology and Astronomy via old and accurate folklore.
Verans value family like none other. Families are usually two parents with seven or eight kids, if they work as fisherman there is usually three or four children. Men work in the fields, while the women teach their children and do household chores. Children are highly valued and are deeply loved by the parents. When a child goes off to war (which has only happened twice, and once there was no casualties) parents are very distraught, but proud of their brave sons.
Military[]
The Veran military is small. It has about 4.1% of the population in enlisted and is staying at the same with a slow growth rate. There has been only two wars in Veran history. The first was the war of Corn. In the War of Corn the country was divided into two factions, who fought for rights over who could grow corn crops. The war ended with a peaceful delegation between the leaders before any casualties were inflicted. The issue was resolved in that anyone could grow whatever they wanted.
The second war was the Pirate War. The war lasted two weeks and cost the lives of 310 Verans. An army of around 1000 pirates decided to invade the seemingly meek and timid Vera. Much to their surprise they were totally annihilated in two weeks by an army numbering in the 5000's, which was almost every man and woman above the age of 16, at that time. Ever since the country has been in a state of peace and prosoperity with a thriving economy and high level of saftey.
