With the appearance of either a young woman combing her hair with a silver or golden comb or looking like an old lady, the Banshee cries as a dark omen of the death of someone.
Her eyes are usually red from all her weeping. At times she is seen as a stately matron. These represent the three aspects of Badhbh, the goddess of death and war. Sometimes she is dressed as a washerwoman, sometimes in a hooded cloak or a grave robe of the dead. In 1437, King James I of Scotland met with a Banshee who foretold of his untimely death at the instigation of the Earl of Atholl. Her cry is so terrible that it shatters glass.
Some say that a Banshee isn't actually undead; she is human who often wakes up screaming or crying because she knows when people will die. They are tormented by their ability to see the future easily and often know things others don't. Just like us, a Banshee looks for a partner but unfortunately when they do, they experience a harsh pain in their heart. A Banshee can shape shift into a owl raven or coyote. When it changes for the first time they are between the age 16 and 20 and when they shift the first time it will be painful if conscious usually the first shift will be on the birthday of the Banshee. If it shifts while sleeping they will not know that they shifted but they will notice a couple of appearance changes if they look in the mirror. Their hair will look more healthy and their eyes may slightly become lighter or darker.
In Welsh mythology the Banshee is called Cyhyraeth or Gwarch y Rhibyn. Some believe they are separate creatures but there is so little difference between them. There is a saying in Wales "Y mae mor salw a Gwrach y Rhibyn" which means "she is as ugly as the Gwrach y Rhibyn". The Gwrach y Rhibyn could he heard calling out "Fy ngwr, fy ngwr!" (My husband! My husband!) or "Fy mhlentyn, fy mhlentyn bach!" (My child! My little child!) or in a male voice "Fy ngwraig! Fy ngwraig!" (My wife! My wife!).
Banshee were a group of female humanoids that were created by Jadis to serve as her guardians during the Age of Winter.
